It can be a funny old night. Expectations are high, crowds are out and we’ve all been left feeling … let down? Well, pop the bottle on 2024 at any one of these Sydney spots for a night that won’t fall short.
Here are some of the biggest and best places to see out the year that was.
Le Foote , The Rocks
What: A banquet of the Swillhouse joint’s Mediterranean fare, with a stunning roll call of add-ons and champagne service – and multiple seatings throughout the night.
Why: You’ll be only moments from the shimmering harbour, in one of our city’s best restaurants. And the atmosphere – art-covered walls in a rambling historic venue. Unmatched.
Price: $180 per person
Reservations are recommended, but there will be some space for walk-ins.
King Clarence , CBD
What: The first NYE shindig in this flashy new dining room – complete with spinning disco balls, and a choice of two set menus from Khanh Nguyen.
Why: Easy – you’ll ring in 2024 at one of the hottest openings of the year, sampling fish-finger sangas, dry-aged duck and Davidson’s plum granita.
Price: $110 or $165 per person, plus drinks
Bookings recommended.
Odd Culture , Newtown
What: Have an odd new year with a one-night-only banquet-style menu in the favoured King Street dining room – candlelit, so you’ll see in 2024 with impeccable vibes.
Why: A glass of Laherte Freres champagne on arrival, and hotspots aplenty to kick on to.
Price: $150 per person
Reservations required.
The Old Fitz , Woolloomooloo
What: A rip-roaring night of live jazz, a set menu of hearty bistro plates and all the merriment the digs are known for.
Why: Champagne on arrival and local jazz trio Coucou Zazous taking over the bistro with their renditions of 1930s and ’40s standards. The heavy-hitting regular menu will be on offer during the day, if you want to kick off early.
Price: $120 per person
Bookings recommended.
Cafe Sydney, Circular Quay
What: Executive chef Sarahjane Brown is whipping up six courses, with Aussie drops to match, chosen by head somm Franck Gozé.
Why: Sky-high seats for the city’s spectacular fireworks show.
Price: $1320 per person

The Newport , Newport
What: DJs from midday, $7 schooeys of Byron Bay Lager and a fireworks show.
Why: A sun-soaked arvo in one of the breeziest boozers around, with a dance floor – powered by Barney Cools DJs from 8pm – plus pizzas, pub classics and multiple bars.
Price: Free entry before 6pm, then $25 cover charge
Bookings recommended for large parties.
Coogee Rooftop , Coogee
What: There’ll be rooftop sessions atop Coogee Pavilion until January 7 – but we think December 31 will be the one to dance at. DJs from midday till late, a beachy menu and drink specials from Byron Bay Brewery.
Why: Locals on the decks, $10 pours of fruity seltzers, and those ocean views.
Price: Free entry
No reservations required.
29/30 , W Hotel Sydney
What: The newest rooftop pool bar in Sydney, DJ sets, four-hour drinks packages and substantial canapés – with a glitzy view.
Why: Free-flowing Veuve Clicquot, an oyster-shucking station and a live hibachi grill.

Tickets required.
