Randwick is the (almost beachside) suburb pushing an array of excellent eateries. There’s artisan gelato and expertly charred pizzas, Indonesian restaurants and a pub (or three).
And, whether catering to the crowds of UNSW students or not, there are plenty of cheaper options around the suburb. Here are three worth your time.
Fettuccine alla bolognaise from Spaghetteria – $15
We’ve all faced a deep craving for creamy, cheesy pasta at one point in our lives – and Spaghetteria understands this yearning. The team’s fettuccine alla bolognaise is a simple classic: tomato sugo as the base for a beef and pork ragu, with plenty of just-grated parm. It’s an ace choice in the colder months.

SIGN UPWhile it’s usually $25 for a bowl, the house-made twirls of pasta are $15 during weekday lunchtimes, from midday till 3pm. If you’re feeling splurgy, bring an extra buck and grab the $6 focaccia toast.
Cheese tteokbokki from Have a Good Toast – $18
Have a Good Toast has been on the Belmore Road block for nearly a year, solidifying itself as a hotspot for Korean classics. This serve of tteokbokki (chewy rice cakes cooked in a spicy red sauce) is joined by fish cakes and a generous melty topping of mozzarella. Pump it up to $20 with the addition of an egg. Or, if you have spare change, add a serve of prawn katsu for $3. The real question is whether you’re going to go mild, medium or extra spicy.
L’Iberico galette from Four Frogs Creperie – $19
The small French eatery across the road from The Ritz – Randwick’s charming cinema – has the galette game down pat. All made on Aussie buckwheat flour (naturally gluten free), the savoury crepes are winners. Opt for the L’Iberico galette, which is filled with sizzling chorizo, mushrooms and a generous helping of Swiss cheese. It’s a real flavour-bang for your buck.
