The aesthetic for The Boathouse Group’s eponymous venues – white-washed walls in waterside spaces, relaxed service for an easy, refined menu – may as well be trademarked. It’s immediately recognisable, since its debut in Palm Beach in 2008, and its expansion to Balmoral, Shelly Beach, Rose Bay, Patonga and North Wollongong. Soon though, the family team’s expanding the vision by opening The Corner, a shake-up in vibe and offering to its OG Palm Beach space.

The Corner will be a four-in-one: restaurant, wine bar, deli and provedore. And the food’s being led by a local pro: Sam Kane, who joins as head chef and GM. “I’ll be writing a blackboard menu for the dining room that will be inspired by the daily produce delivery, keeping our menu innovative and hyper-seasonal,” Kane said in a statement. He’s bringing time spent in the Berts, Bistro Moncur and Guillaume Brahimi kitchens, delivering the Euro-style ever-changing format we’ve recently seen at Potts Point newcomer Paradise, and favourites like Farmhouse, Seans and 10 William St.

“I’ve been dreaming about opening my own venue for years, and it was very fortuitous to align with The Boathouse Group. With no other provider of daily delivered fresh produce … I saw an opportunity to create a space for locals that … celebrates those ingredients when they are in their prime.”

From 7am every day, brekkie and lunch will be served, and on Fridays and Saturdays a fixed-price menu takes charge. A tight wine list will feature Aussie and European drops.

Bread will be baked fresh on-site by Ximena Fernandez, who joins as sous and pastry chef from Berts.

“We’ve pulled an incredible team together to deliver something special and meaningful to Palm Beach,” said Ben Collis, the group’s head of marketing. “Having Sam bring his experience and expertise to this venue is a real game-changer, we are fully behind his vision and believe the local community will absolutely love it.”

The Corner will open at 1 Beach Road, Palm Beach, in late September 2025.
