Sydneysiders Can Now Order Pillowy Soft Bao Packs From a Melbourne Favourite
Like most hospo businesses, Melbourne’s Wonderbao has had a rocky 18 months. In March 2020, the bao shop was forced to close its brick-and-mortar premises after eight years in the same location, and many of Wonderbao’s pop-up locations such as the Night Noodle Markets and Finders Keepers Markets went digital. So, the peeps at Wonderbao also went online – delivering DIY bao packs across Melbourne – and now its posting packs to Sydney addresses, too.
There are three bao packs to choose from – Korean fried chicken with spicy sauce and pickled daikon; pork belly with hoisin and pickled carrots; or a vegan-friendly crisp eggplant with sweet and sour sauce. Each $32 kit comes with 10 gua baos (fillable buns) for you to stuff yourself. They come with step-by-step instructions for how to steam your buns, cook your fillings and assemble the bao. Plus, there are suggested garnishes and additional toppings should you want to get creative.
Wonderbao also sells Classic Bao packs for $10, stuffed with barbeque pork, chicken, red bean, taro, veggies or custard. Each one contains six ready-to-steam buns – and if you don’t own a steamer, you can buy one from Wonderbao for $25. Alternatively, they steam just as well in a microwave.
Orders to Sydney are delivered every Friday and Tuesday. Order by Monday or Wednesday. There’s a minimum $60 spend and delivery is $18 within metro Sydney.
