After more than 50 years at its current location, the iconic Sydney Fish Market is moving to the southern area of Blackwattle Bay.

The new site, only a few metres from its current position on the Pyrmont waterfront, will double the market’s size and offer a quadrupled number of parking spaces, as well as new road, light rail and ferry connections.

Already the biggest fish market in the Southern Hemisphere, the expansion will deliver a new building with public boardwalks and alfresco seaside dining, with restaurants and bars staying open late into the night. There will also be a larger culinary training and education centre.

The Sydney Fish Market will remain open during the redevelopment, which is part of a larger overhaul of Blackwattle Bay.

Development of the market will be managed by the government’s urban transformation agency Urban Growth New South Wales – the same team behind the Green Square Town Centre and the urban regeneration of Central to Eveleigh.
