A Pizza Party, Led by Some of Sydney’s Best Chefs, Is Heating Up Ace Hotel’s Laneway

When we spoke to Isobel Whelan-Little a few months ago, after she became Ace Hotel’s debut culinary director , she hinted at a series of cheffy summer parties, where Gozneys and hibachis are firing in the back laneway, captained by kitchen legends like Luke Powell and Ellie Bouhadana. And now is the time, Sydney: Sunday Arvos kicks off on Sunday October 5.
“I love the Good Chemistry space, that back area of the Ace, it’s so underutilised,” Whelan-Little tells Broadsheet. “It’s like, what’s going on? Let’s get some people out there and have a party.”
The loose brief is pizza, fired in the soon-to-be-released Gozney Dome XL Gen 2. These puppies are available from October 15, so your only chance to check them out before then is at Ace. Powell (of Bella Brutta, LP’s Quality Meats) is up first. Pepperoni, ricotta and honey will top one pie, and potato and rosemary the other – whole or by the slice.
“It will be the first time Luke and I have cooked together since LP’s Quality Meats shut. Luke’s gone from being a mentor to becoming a great friend, so I’m very excited that we get to kick things off together.”
Next is Pizza Oltra’s Drew Huxton on November 2, before Jean Paul El Tom of Baba’s Place on November 30 and then Bouhadana on January 18. A few guest chefs are yet to be locked in, so keep your eyes on Ace’s socials.
“I love the Good Chemistry space for its laid-back vibe, and I’ve been dreaming of a little series like this since I took on the role with Ace. Great music, a few drinks, excellent snacks and mates rolling through – this is how I’d spend any typical Sunday afternoon, so we’re really just inviting everyone in to hang out with us while we do just that – welcoming a bunch of chefs I admire for the rest of the season.”
Sunday Arvos in Good Chemistry kicks off with Luke Powell and Isobel Whelan-Little cooking on Sunday October 5, 2025. Free entry with RSVP, from 3pm till 7pm.
