Lukumades, a Melbourne store specialising in Greek loukoumades doughnuts, will open its first Sydney store in early May, in Chippendale's Central Park precinct.

Although loukoumades are traditionally served with honey syrup and walnuts, the versions served at Lukumades are a little more cosmopolitan. The Oreo Balls, for instance, are covered in white chocolate, crushed Oreos and cookies and cream gelato, while the Matcha Chocolate Balls are covered in matcha-infused white chocolate and dusted in matcha powder.

According to founder Exarhos Sourligas, the dough recipe for his doughnuts took two years to develop and the mix itself is vegan.

Following the lead of the West Melbourne Lukumades store, the Sydney Lukumades will also serve a coffee blend created by Sydney-based William De Nass roasters.

Lukumades also has plans to go global. By the end of year it will open stores in the US and Cyprus, with more to be announced.

Lukumades is slated to open on Thursday May 2 at Central Park.
