Ouroboros is a light-filled organic wholefoods kitchen, serving nourishing and fresh food. The just-opened cafe, on the corner of Holt and Devonshire Streets in Surry Hills, takes its name from an ancient Greek emblem. The ouroboros symbol depicts a serpent eating its own tail, and represents regeneration, recreation and the idea of beginning anew.

To begin your casual culinary regeneration, Ouroboros has poached organic eggs; buckwheat porridge with almond milk; and a biodynamic omelette with chia seeds, feta and kale on the menu for breakfast. Coffee is by Mecca and includes single-origin, cold-brew and filter specialties. At lunch vegetarian salads are rich and colourful – organic golden roast beetroot with rocket, green apple and radish, and pumpkin, caraway seeds, brown rice and baby tomatoes. There are also seasonal soups, toasted sandwiches and heartier meals such as brown rice risotto and moussaka.

Inside, Ouroboros is clean and relaxed. Long communal tables in pale timber are laid with simple garlands of fresh vegetables and cut stalks of green bananas, making the overall Ouroboros experience equally as fresh and regenerative as its organics. The cafe is also licensed, serving Tamburlaine Organic wines from the Hunter Valley by the glass and bottle. For those with a more wholesome thirst, you’ll find house-made cold-pressed juices and Ovvio organic teas.
