Not too far from Bondi Junction’s commercial shopping strip, Woollahra is now the latest notch in Sonoma's belt of bakery-cafe hybrids. It’s a more sedate spot in contrast to the bustling streets nearby, but that makes it all the more perfect, offering a place of respite from the well-heeled boutiques in the vicinity.
The dark timber surfaces and a minimalist fit-out make for a familiar Sonoma touch, as does the Single Origin Roasters coffee (blended and roasted to suit the seasons), more-ish pastries and cakes, mueslis and the sandwiches, which seem so simple but always impress. And that’s without even mentioning the shelves piled with breads in dozens of varieties, from seed-studded sourdoughs to polenta loaves and giant wheels of miche.
Coffee nerds might be more intrigued by the on-tap milk system in place (dubbed ‘The Juggler’), which cuts down on bottle waste and removes the stop-start motions of making milk-based coffees. It’s so seamless that you may not even notice it.
But otherwise, Sonoma Woollahra is much the same as their other venues, in the most pleasant of ways.
