There are tasty things on the house – sandwiches in Bondi and tapas in Potts Point – and an old school fish’n’chipper at the Opera House. Plus, a dry red for your head.

What’s on around town

• Today, Bondi’s S’wich is making the lunchtimes of 500 Sydneysiders better with free salad sandwiches. There’s roasted carrots, lettuce, avo and cucumber beneath green goddess, with plenty of alfalfa sprouts and the crunch of garlic-bread crumb – finished with a dose of Heinz’s new smoky vegan mayo. After the freebies are gone, it’s on the menu till next Thursday, January 18.

• It’s seafood baskets, potato scallops and one of the most iconic views in the world at The Harbour , the nostalgic fish’n’chipper on the Opera House’s Northern Broadwalk. It’s open until Saturday February 3, so don't dilly-dally.

Frankly Oltra , the first Love Tilly Devine collab dinner, is next week. The City Oltra team will be firing pizzas and making snacks, and Frankly, This Wine Was Made by Bob is on the pour. Sadly, it’s booked out – but there are a few spots for walk-ins. Good luck.

• Smalls Deli has a new special, and it’s all about beans. Head to the Potts Point sandwich mecca to get your mitts on the panini stuffed with finocchiona, charred snake beans, zucchini, iceberg and parmesan crema.

Takeover Tuesday at PS40 is back for the year, kicking off with the Kurumba team. It's $65 a head for a multi-course meal of Sri Lankan street-food dishes – like stuffed banana peppers, and fish skewers with mango achcharu (pickle) – with a house cocktail on arrival. Bookings essential.

• Red-lit Potts Point bar Vermuteria is sweetening your midweek drinking, offering free tapas with Archie Rose cocktails on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm. And, on select Sundays, there’s live flamenco to backdrop your Spanish sips.

Icebergs has added a classic hotdog to its bar menu. It’s a Whole Beast snag topped with onions, pickle relish and a zigzag of mustard and tomato sauce – and it’s available from midday.

Yum things by cool people

• Worktones’ latest wearable ode to food is a dry red for your head. The burgundy gamay cap – made in collaboration with Native Drops ($50) – is fun, sun-safe, and guaranteed to bring you compliments.
