Coming Soon: The Pantry Story Team Is Opening a Second Inner West Bakery

If you zip along Parramatta Road on the weekend, you’ll see a queue stretching out from a cream-coloured shopfront. The people are patiently waiting for some exceptionally creative bakes, all with an Asian influence. A kouign amann filled with black sesame mochi, maybe, and a hand pie stuffed with char siu, hefty slabs of kimcheese focaccia and matcha strawberry babkas. It’s Stanmore favourite Pantry Story, the bakery from couple Mutiara Sucipto and Hari Wibowo. Now, more than a year after signing the lease for the space next door, the pair are opening Sangcuary.

The brief at the soon-to-open spot is “salted, sweetened, sandwiched”, the couple announced on Instagram. “You can expect sandwiches and gelato sandwiches, with Southeast Asian-inspired flavours, along with many of our personal favourites.” The bread will be house-made and the offering will be ever-changing, with a focus on specials.

The name riffs on the word “sanctuary”, as well as combining the team’s childhood nicknames, Sangcu and Ary. “Everything about this store will reflect the things we love. Just like our sister brand, Pantry Story.”

With the team’s seemingly never-ending creativity (who could forget the croissant handbag, created exclusively for the Dine Out debut), a beautiful fit-out nearing completion and a sweet new concept, the Parramatta Road lines are tipped to lengthen.

Sangcuary is expected to open at 334 Parramatta Road, Stanmore, in late July 2026.
