Four Sandwich Specials Hitting Sydney Especially for Dine Out

Sandwiches have only continued to soar higher, Sydney. And we can’t get enough. This year alone has seen more than a few new sanga joints opening to immediate crowds , joining our clutch of trusty favourites. But the inaugural Dine Out, Broadsheet ’s dining festival, sees the debut of four sandwiches and the return of an old fave.
Fratelli Paradiso’s in the mix, and another is available for a whole week in August. All four are worth your time.
Kosta’s Takeaway x Fratelli Paradiso: calamari Sant’ Andrea
One of Sydney’s best chicken schnitzel sangas can be found at south Sydney-born Kosta’s Takeaway, a joint that can now be found all over. But for a very special Dine Out collab, the team – led by group chef Gabriel del Conti – is putting calamari in the spotlight together with chef Trisha Greentree from Italian icon Fratelli Paradiso.
Expect the sanga to be simple and a hit, just like everything at Fratelli. Golden fried rings of its calamari Sant’ Andrea – on the Fratelli menu for more than two decades – are supported by the Potts Point restaurant’s signature sauce and rocket, all on a crusty white roll.
Cost: $18
When: Friday August 15
Where: Kosta’s Takeaway , Rosebery
Wildflower x Goldstreet Dairy: Jersey cheese sandwich
Wildflower is the Marrickville warehouse brewery with an outstanding snacky menu and lots of funky ferments. Cheesemaker Colin Wood also makes his Goldstreet fromage here and for Dine Out the beer garden – now called Village, home to Wildflower and Mountain Culture – is serving a special grilled cheese sandwich with those golden curds.
It’s going to be next-level: the signature Jersey cheese, grilled to perfection , will join cultured buttermilk and habanero hot sauce on a chewy roll. Honestly, it’s only made better with a schooey or two.
Cost: $18
When: Thursday August 14 to Sunday August 17
Where: Village , Marrickville
Good Ways Deli: chicken waldorf (and a perfect custard slice)
The adored little deli and bakery is throwing it back to its early days with the return of a day-one fan favourite: a poached chicken waldorf sandwich loaded with celery, apple, mayo, walnuts and dressed rocket served on those outstanding house-baked rolls.
But that’s not enough – the team will make everyone’s week with an extended run of its coveted vanilla slice. Golden pastry, wobbly custard – they’ll sell out fast.
Cost: $18 (sandwich), $8 (vanilla slice)
When: Monday August 11 till Sunday August 17
Where: Good Ways Deli, Redfern and Alexandria
Woodcut: the “ultimate” French dip
The fire-powered harbourside dining room has a lunch special in store: the “ultimate” French dip sanga. Expect thinly sliced roast beef, pastrami and bresaola in crunchy bread roll, with the crucial element alongside – a pot of rich beef sauce for dipping.
Cost: $28
When: Monday August 11 till Sunday August 17
Where: Woodcut , Barangaroo
