The cavernous Salt Meats Cheese warehouse has become an Alexandria experience; pasta- and cheese-making workshops, specialty salumi and wood-fired pizza served from a shipping crate. Soon all this won’t be exclusive to the inner east – the team is heading north to open in Mosman on July 1.
“Lots of our customers in Alexandria come from the North Shore,” says owner Stefano Di Blasi. “Alexandria is quite industrial, and we’ve been looking to do something more residential for a while. So when the opportunity in Mosman came up it was perfect.” The new site is the old Quattro Formaggi spot on Military Road in the heart of the Mosman village, and given it was already a deli and specialty food space, the location couldn’t be better.
“Our focus will be on coffee and cake and catering to people catching the bus out the front, so we will be open from 7am. But there will be a deli making everything fresh, as well as cheese platters and a wine list for the evening. So there will be a small bar element too.”
It might not be the warehouse experience that Alexandria is, but the deli offering will be comprehensive, and staff will be as knowledgeable. Salt Meats Cheese will also open a store in Surfers Paradise in late July.
