Royal Croquet Club started in Adelaide – it sprung up during the festival madness that overtakes that city at the end of each summer. Since then it has toured the country, visiting Melbourne and Brisbane and soon Perth. For the first time this Easter it’s coming to Sydney.
The “Club” is a one-off outdoor festival that brings great restaurants, bars, bands and DJs together around a giant croquet pitch. For 10 days over the Easter long weekend and into the next, Bondi Park will be transformed into an outdoor dining and entertainment precinct.
The food line-up is curated by Broadsheet. It includes some of our favourite restaurants and cafes in Sydney, including: Salt Meats Cheese, The Hill Eatery, Mamak, Playa Takeria, Woofys and Gelato Messina. Haven Specialty Coffee will pour coffee, hot chocolate and iced-tea mocktails.
Some of the restaurants involved will create dishes especially for the Royal Croquet Club. Salt Meats Cheese will present a custom pizza with prawns, zucchini, mozzarella and smoked scamorza. Woofys will serve grass-fed Angus-beef sausages with Sriracha slaw, grilled pineapple and crispy bacon. Playa Takeria will serve The Royal Burrito, filled with Guerrero-style grilled chicken, cheese, guacamole and fries. All of these dishes are only available at the Royal Croquet Club.
Bars will sell champagne, cocktails and plenty of Pimm’s.
Open every day from 12pm until late, it’s the perfect spot for after-work drinks, post-swim hangs or dealing with hunger pangs. The live-music line-up will be announced shortly. Round up your mates and make a day of it, wandering from food stall to dance floor to croquet pitch and back again.
