Sydney already loves Bologna-born chain Rivareno Gelato for its velvety scoops and top-notch ingredients. Now its announced it’s teaming up with some of Sydney’s most popular restaurants to create four limited-edition flavours to celebrate its sixth birthday.

From April 29 to May 12, Rivareno will join forces with Kylie Kwong (of Chinese-Australian restaurant Billy Kwong), Sri Lankan joint Lankan Filling Station, Italian diner Da Mario and Turkish eatery Anason to develop gelato flavours relevant to each restaurant. Each week two of the limited-edition flavours will be available.

“Rivareno has formed partnerships with like-minded restaurants that have a strong focus on the quality of the ingredients they use,” Kieran Tosolini, owner of Rivareno Sydney, tells Broadsheet.

“While there is a focus on traditional Italian desserts behind Rivareno’s flavours, you will also find more unusual flavours that each have a story behind them; they’re not just a mishmash of ingredients. For this collaboration we have chosen flavours that reflect our shared philosophy with our partner restaurants.”

Kylie Kwong, who’s known for her love of Australian ingredients, will kickstart celebrations on week one with a coconut and native finger lime gelato. Her contribution will be joined by Lankan Filling Station’s. The restaurant has employed the flavours of a classic Sri Lankan dessert called watalappam, a baked or steamed coconut custard pudding. Lankan Filling Station will create a spiced jaggery (cane sugar) gelato made from the sugar of the Sri Lankan kithul palm and spices such as cardamom, nutmeg and cinnamon.

On week two, Barangaroo eatery Anason will channel its Turkish roots with a creamy yoghurt gelato laced with saffron and turmeric.

Rounding out the second week will be Da Mario’s “tiramisu in a cup”, containing mascarpone gelato, Sicilian marsala, arabica coffee-soaked savoiardi biscuits (sponge fingers) and dark chocolate chips.

Kylie Kwong and Lankan Filling Station’s gelatos will be available from April 29 to May 5. Da Mario and Anason’s gelatos will be available from May 6 to 12. They will available at Rivareno Gelato Darlinghurst and Barangaroo.
