We’re blessed with one of the most spectacular backdrops for celebrating New Year’s Eve, and with a fireworks display widely acknowledged as one of the best in the world. All you really need to do is get in early for a good harbourside spot to see the show. Just in case you’re looking for more than a picnic this New Year’s Eve, here’s a cross-section of what’s happening right across this fair city of ours to bring in the new year in style. From sit-down dinners, to fancy dress feasts or all night dance parties - there’s a celebration for everyone.


Rushcutters - Four-course dinner
The newly opened Rushcutters at Rushcutters Bay will be hosting a special four-course menu to celebrate NYE. There’re Taittinger magnums for $130 between 4-5pm, and sharing plates and dishes include oysters, marinated sardines and grilled rib-eye, with a choice of desserts. Dinner is $120pp in the dining room from 5.30pm.

Nomad - Eight-course NYE dinner Located in a warehouse on the edge of Surry Hills, there’s something to be said for enjoying Sydney dining without the glitz of the harbour demanding your attention. With a glass of Stefano Lubiana on arrival and an eight-course dinner showcasing the fresh produce that Nomad is known for, this is NYE dinner without the hype. Tix $100pp from 6pm.

The Cottage Bar & Kitchen Balmain - New Year’s Eve
These guys are open from midday until 2am for NYE, and it’s the place to be if you want a bit of fun, great food and a no tickets policy. There’s live music from 8pm, you can book tables in the dinning room, upstairs, or in the back courtyard- but there’s also room for walk ins. Share style food including pizzas fresh from the pizza oven makes for a more relaxed celebration.

The Morrison Bar & Oyster Room - Three-course dinner
Right in the heart of the CBD and spitting distance from all the fireworks action on the harbour, soak up the electrifying atmosphere of New Year’s Eve with a celebration at The Morrison Bar & Oyster Room and a three-course dinner by Chef Sean Connolly with beverages. Seatings are available at 6pm and 9.30pm, leaving time for you to get to the fireworks. Tix are $99pp.

4 Pines, Manly - A fancy dress feast
If you like your NYE dinners to feel a little different, then get your fancy dress on and head to 4 Pines Brew Pub in Manly for a fairy tale style New Year’s Eve celebration. There’s a medieval banquet of pig and lamb beasts, salmon, vegies, salads and desserts, with a two-hour drinks package including craft beers, ciders and wine. There’s even a best-dressed prize. Tix $95pp for the banquet, starting at 7.30pm.

Café Nice - New Year’s Eve seven-course dinner
With a cheeky view through to the harbour right past the train tracks of Circular Quay, Café Nice has a prime location that’s still almost hidden. For NYE there is a seven-course dinner on offer with matching wines and champagne on arrival and served during the fireworks. Tix $195pp.


Opera House - NYE Party at the House with Matt Moran
With arguably the best location right in the heart of all the Sydney NYE action, the Opera House is hosting a party this year catered by celebrity chef Matt Moran (inspired by the food at his award winning Aria restaurant) and with entertainment starring Sneaky Sound System. Hosted on the Western boardwalk of the upper concourse, you’ll have unrivalled harbourside views with food and drinks served right across the evening.

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel - Wonderlust presented by Love Cloud
With a prime waterside location Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel has got you covered with a NYE party catered with canapés by chef Pete Evans, European inspired cocktails, and a great view of the harbour. You can even kick back to the sounds of Tokyo Denmark Sweden, DOLSO, Leah (Chicks on Deck) and Hatch. Tix are limited and you can back it up the next day with the Beach Clique party presented by Love Cloud.

Overseas Passenger Terminal - Paradise NYE
With unbeatable views of Sydney Harbour, food by celebrity chefs (think Pete Evans, Adam D’Sylva and Justin North) and fireworks right at your door, these guys will be hosting a perfect NYE party. Live DJs round out the evening including Norman Jay MBE. Tix from $295pp.

Clark Island Party - NYE Island Lounge Islands are another great feature of Sydney Harbour- so why not make the most of an island setting for NYE? After a successful launch in 2012, Clark Island is again hosting the Island Lounge on New Year’s Eve. It’s a perfect vantage point for the fireworks and you’re looking into the city all around you. Guests will receive a complimentary gourmet hamper including dessert and beverages, and there’s a mix of hot food stations on the island and live entertainment from Eon Beats.
