Sydneysiders no longer have to fret about getting their hands on cafe-quality smashed avo during lockdown. Thanks to a partnership between Sonoma Bakery and Australian Avocados, you can now get a $15 brunch pack that includes half a loaf of Sonoma’s freshly baked miche sourdough, two avocados and some spicy seed mix to sprinkle on top.
In 2019, Australians consumed more avocados per capita than any other English-speaking country – in fact, Sydney cafe Bills is widely credited with popularising avo on toast. Despite the dish’s popularity, avocado sales have recently dropped, due to cafe closures as a result of coronavirus.
To bolster sales, Australian Avocados (the peak body for the avocado industry) has launched a new campaign to #SmashAnAvoAtHome. By purchasing a brunch pack, you can help save avocados from going to waste; support local farmers, distributors and businesses; and enjoy a cafe-worthy breakfast in your kitchen.
