If you’re skipping the jaunt through Euro summer this year, head to Rainbow Studios on Saturday June 8 instead. Jenna Holmes (aka Pasta Mama) is making her arty debut: showing her bright collection of prints, Il Popolo, The People.

“Il popolo” means “the people”, nodding to the subjects of Holmes’s photos. The bright snaps capture humans soaking in the Mediterranean sun. The carb lover is a true creative all-rounder: an artist, cook, author and plant lord. Il Popolo, The People reflects many of her interests.

The show is a multidimensional exploration of people, food and places. Holmes’s film photographs from European trips are splashed with large block lettering, spelling out statements like “Make your own sugar, be your own daddy” and “He that can take rest is greater than he who can take cities”. Each print is an ode to P-Mami’s travels, and the people she has encountered along the way.

While you admire all things sunshine and sea, the team from Randwick’s New York-style Frank’s Deli will serve up classic sangas featuring pickles, cheese and thick cuts of meat. Holmes will be cooking too, passing out bowls of her signature red sauce and spaghetti.

Rainbow Studios owners Brent Gold and Jade Gillett have created a space to showcase emerging and established artists. It’s a hub for intimate and creative exhibitions, events and gatherings. Pasta Mama’s prints will be available for purchase on the day. If you can’t make it, the prints will be available online for one week from 5pm on Friday June 7.

Il Popolo, The People takes over Rainbow Studios from 11am till 3pm on Saturday June 8. It’s free to attend, but registration is required.
