The Picnic Club, which originally launched in 2019, creates luxury picnic settings of blankets, chairs, low tables and platters of cheese, fruit and other snacks so all you have to do is show up on the day.

It was a service Karina Findley had hoped to use herself when she sat down to organise a surprise picnic for her friend at the start of 2021. At the time, she had no idea it would become a side hustle to her regular nine-to-five.

“I called [The Picnic Club] and they told me they had decided to sell the business.” So, Findley bought it.

Findley, still working as an account manager in shipping and freight during the week, now runs the business setting up boho baby showers to Paw Patrol-themed picnics across the city.

Findley collaborates with other small businesses such as Weekend Posy for flower arrangements, plus Platter Up Co and Goodness Gracious Sydney for grazing boards.

You choose the location (within your permitted radius) – she’s set up at Balmoral, Parsley Bay, Observatory Hill and Paddington Reservoir before. Then select one of the five themes from “coastal luxe” and “boho” to “high tea”, and Findley will set up and organise the picnic for you.

You can also customise your event by matching the colours to your invites, or personal items. Best of all, Findley returns to pack it all up when you’re finished.

“I’ve got a surprise 40th that I’m really excited about, and an intimate wedding,” Findley tells Broadsheet. Over Easter she arranged an event for children with bunny paw prints leading up to the table. “It was so cute.”

Picnics have a two-hour time limit. Packages start from $1296 without platters for 10 to 12 people.
