A Moment For: A Golden, Oozy Shakshuka Danish From a Rozelle Bakery

Fabbrica Bread Shop burst onto the inner west bakery scene in 2023, bringing metre-long focaccias, masala croissants and a funky, pastry-powered take on anchovy toast. The shop’s a spin-off of Fabbrica, the CBD pasta bar that now has siblings in Darlinghurst and Newtown. And while there’s a crash-hot line-up of carby treats, the one that’s on my mind right now is the shakshuka danish.
Always trying to decide between eggs and pastry? Same. This serve, from the dynamic duo of group head baker Aniruddha Bhosekar and baker Alyce Bennett, solves the morning dilemma. Here are all the details.
What: Shakshuka danish, a golden round of pastry filled with a rich red sauce and a gooey egg.
How: The team’s signature flaky pastry is rolled, shaped and then baked until golden, before being pulled out of the oven for a spoonful of spiced tomato-and-pepper sauce and an egg on top. The danishes are then whacked back in the oven till the egg’s set (but still gooey). A splash of olive oil and a sprinkling of salt, Aleppo pepper flakes and chopped parsley to finish.
Cost: $12
Where: Fabbrica Bread Shope in Rozelle.
