The restaurant – with one of Sydney’s best views, and best potatoes – is leaving its Barangaroo address this summer.

At Oncore, on level 26 of the Crown, acclaimed British chef Clare Smyth’s signature seven-course tasting menu awaits. Since it opened in 2021, the fine diner has been a top spot for special occasions for its artful, momentous dishes – and that silky, spectacular potato and roe. But the lease is up, and Oncore is closing.

“Opening Oncore in Sydney has been an incredible journey,” Smyth said in a statement. “I’m deeply proud of what we’ve achieved and grateful to the team whose talent and dedication brought our vision to life. It’s been a privilege to share our food with Australian diners and be part of Crown Sydney’s world-class offering.”

The dining room was Smyth’s first restaurant outside of the UK, an “encore” to Core, her three-Michelin-starred Notting Hill fine diner.

“Whilst geographically Australia is across the world from the UK, the relationship between the two is so close, that it also feels like home to me,” Smyth told Broadsheet at the time. “As I normally travel to Australia once or twice a year for events and to visit friends, it was the ideal location to open my second restaurant and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when it came my way.”

The Sydney-only dishes on the menu followed Core’s suit: a fusion of the chef’s Northern Irish heritage and her London home but powered by our standout produce. Tathra Place duck sweetened with Malfroy’s Gold honeySydney Rockefellers; and the Beef and Oyster, a fancy take on an Irish stout pie made with local bivalves. Then the high-low vibes hit with caviar-topped fried chicken (served in a little garden) and that potato, roasted whole in butter and kombu, then served with beurre blanc and a crown of roe and flowers.

Oncore by Clare Smyth joins Cirrus, Double Deuce and Monopole as CBD closures this year. The venue to move into the Core space is yet to be confirmed.

Oncore by Clare Smyth will close on Saturday February 28, 2026. Final bookings are available now.
