Not Your Nanna’s Fruit Cake: Black Star Pastry Unveils the Ultimate Festive Dessert To Order This Christmas

Since it launched in Sydney back in 2008, Black Star Pastry has seldom put a foot wrong. Capitalising on the success of its Strawberry Watermelon Cake which blew up on Instagram and earned the patissiers a bevy of die-hard followers, its decadent desserts and limited-edition treats often sell out. The store’s been out of the Christmas cake game for a few years, but Black Star Pastry is back with a bang with its First Snow Christmas cake.
Far from your grandma’s Christmas pud, this delicate dessert is refreshingly fresh and floral with elderflower cream sandwiched between white chocolate-drizzled milk sponge. Veins of deep red boozy Griottine cherry compote strike through the clean white cake and a thick roasted wafer base provides crunch and depth of flavour.
As you’d expect with Black Star, the cake is camera-eats-first-levels of beautiful with a dainty dusting of white chocolate, garnishes include hand-carved, pine-flavoured chocolate pinecones and frosty white chocolate ice shards.
First Snow comes in two sizes which serve four (or one very hungry and determined person) or 10, which should mean that no matter the size of your Christmas dinner, a little bit of Black Star can be on the menu.
Pre-orders are available from Monday December 5 to be collected from Thursday December 22 to Saturday December 24. Orders can be collected from Sydney and Melbourne stores. $48–$92.
