Employees Only, the world-renowned bar from the city that never sleeps, will finally open this Saturday.
The seminal prohibition-style bar (which Broadsheet first reported about in July this year) is hidden underground on Barrack Street in the thick of the CBD. It will be a good option if you're looking for a late-night haunt – it will open Mondays to Saturdays, with food and drink served until 3am, and until midnight on Sundays.
So what to expect? More of the classy cocktails and the steak tartare that gained the Big Apple original its loyal following, as well as the polished service that has seen Employees Only repeatedly waltz onto international “best cocktail bar” lists. But there are new touches, too.
When we spoke with EO in July, Anna Fang, the venue manager, said they were adamant this antipodean outpost will be distinctly Sydney.
Native Australian ingredients such as quandong, pig face (the green succulent plant), and salt bush pop up on the food menu, as does avocado, but to be imbibed, rather than brunched.
The wrap-around bar features brass, dark timber and emerald-hued velvet, and the dining room has banquette seating.
