Gelato Messina is ubiquitous in Sydney and is steadily growing in Melbourne. But being in just two states isn’t enough for the gelato empire.
Now it’s the Gold Coast’s turn to get around-the-corner-queue-worthy gelato with Queensland’s first store opening this week in Coolangatta. Declan Lee, co-founder of the gelato group says, “The opportunity was presented to us and we thought it was a great idea. Did I mention it was opposite the beach?”
The whole team will be implementing the new venture with head chef, Donato Toce and co-owners, Declan Lee and brothers Nick and Danny Palumbo.
Opening today on Marine Parade, Messina Gelato will be celebrating the best way they know how: with new flavours. Cool in Gatta will be a mango sorbet and vanilla gelato swirled together with macadamia crunch. Others, such as summer classic, pavlova, will also be featured on opening day.
Messina Coolangatta is part of new retail and commercial complex The Strand, which has just undergone a $60 million redevelopment by the Vinta Group. The new Messina store will be next door to Turkish restaurant Kazbah, the original of which is a favourite in Sydney.
