In February 2020, the restaurant at Chippendale smokehouse and smallgoods producer LP’s Quality Meats had its final service after six years serving diners smoked, cured and dry-aged meats, cold-cuts and hearty vegetable dishes. Back then, owner Luke Powell decided to close up the restaurant side of his business to focus on wholesale, selling his smallgoods and sausages to restaurants and delis across the city. But shortly after the closure, the Covid-19 pandemic arrived in Australia. Powell reopened the restaurant in August 2020 to pick up the slack from a drop in wholesale customers. Now, that second iteration of the LP’s Quality Meats restaurant will close. Its last service will be on August 21.

LP’s announced the news on Instagram, saying the closure will “once again make way for the growth of the LP’s Smallgoods brand”.

“For now, we tip our hats to the incredible staff that have made this last two years so fun, energetic and creative … Here’s to another eight years of sausage!”

This is absolutely not the last of Sydneysiders’ LP’s-eating adventures. It’ll still be at Carriageworks Farmers Market every fortnight serving hotdogs and other meaty confections. Plus, you’ll find its mortadella, salami, saucisson and pepperoni on menus across Sydney, including at Bella Brutta and Continental Deli in Newtown, Bondi’s Lox in a Box, Fiore Bread on the lower north shore, AP Bakery in Surry Hills, and many others.

For now, you can still head into LP’s for weekend lunches and dinner from Thursday to Saturday for its singular menu of hearty meat and vegetable dishes crafted under the steady hand of head chef Isobel Little. And the team promises there are some “exciting projects on the horizon” that it “can’t wait” to share.
