Lottie and Bar Julius in Redfern To Close After Just 18 Months

When it opened at the end of 2024, Redfern’s Wunderlich Lane proved one of the most exciting restaurant precincts in years. It gave us Regina La Pizzeria, vibey Southeast Asian spot Island Radio, father-son omakase restaurant R by Raita Noda and Hot Listed Greek phenom Olympus Dining. And inside the development’s Eve Hotel, in-house Mexican rooftop Lottie (also on The Hot List) and all-day eatery Bar Julius.

Now comes the unhappy news that after just 18 months of weak trading, Lottie and Bar Julius will go the same way as the precinct’s Baptist Street Rec Club, which closed in January and became Vitelli’s Upstairs. Lottie and Bar Julius are operated by Liquid & Larder, which also owns Bistecca, Alfie’s, The Rover and The Gidley.

“Building Bar Julius and Lottie from the ground up challenged us creatively and gave our team the opportunity to deliver experience-led hospitality in a completely new environment,” Liquid & Larder co-founder James Bradey said in a statement jointly issued with Toga Group, the developer and landlord at Wunderlich Lane.

Lottie will serve its last guests on August 23, while Bar Julius will finish up on August 26. Both spots are participating in Broadsheet’s second annual Dine Out festival this week, with Lottie hosting a sellout collab with Maiz last night and Bar Julius’s Pepe Saya soufflé pancakes available for walk-ins until Sunday.

Toga has reached an agreement with The Apollo Group, owner of Olympus Dining, to take over both spaces inside the Eve. It will open two new restaurants there before the year’s end, with no concepts yet revealed.
