Chalk another one up for foodies loving the Grosvenor Street eating precinct that just keeps on growing in Neutral Bay. Just over a week ago The Local Bar opened down an alleyway that already sports Central Baking Depot on one corner and Enopizzeria on the other.
It’s a tiny little drinking den – all cinder block walls, a pressed tin bar and back wall mural of fish swimming amongst bottles – but it’s got some big name backers.
With the combined star power of names including Sam Neill, David Wenham, Rob Sitch and George Gregan behind it, there’s certainly some celebrity cred to this new addition. But despite the famous faces, The Local Bar is a humble little venue, inspired by the small bars of Japan and with a focus on providing a relaxed little watering hole for good drinks and good conversation.
The crowd was out the door on opening night, with Neill amongst the attending guests, but we suspect once it settles in, it’ll be a nice, tidy little spot for a relaxing wine or gin and tonic this summer. It’s certainly got that hidey-hole small bar appeal.
