King of Pickles and Spices Is Popping Up in Zetland for One Day Only

Pickles are a way of life at one Fairfield grocer. Armed with a bucket and a scoop, customers help themselves to the pickle counter that runs the length of King of Pickles and Spices. Thia Michael, a proud Chaldean (an Assyrian diaspora group) from Iraq, runs the business, where regular market trips and a family-secret spice mix fuel the bright pickles.
This weekend, the family will pop up at Delisia Panino & Espresso in Zetland – and there’s a limited-edition sanga, too.
On Saturday May 9, King of Pickles will sell jars of its signature pickles, lavashak and Turkish delight. Plus, find jars of pickled red peppers, pears and a mild green chilli, made in collaboration with the Delisia team (wife and husband Lena and Ray Raslan).
Those bespoke preserves can be found in The Pickled Mama, a $22.50 special that’ll be on the Delisia menu from May 9 to 31. A focaccia is stuffed with slightly spicy smoked turkey, stracciatella and a tomato pesto, then those pickles.
King of Pickles pops up at Delisia, Unit 6/501 Botany Road, Zetland, on Saturday May 9 from 10am till 3pm.
