The Bentley Group, co-owned by Brent Savage and Nick Hildebrandt, is known for its fine food and service, and its stable is an expansive one. There’s the eponymous Bentley, plant-based fine diner Yellow, the recently relaunched Monopole and its newest, King Clarence. And then there’s Cirrus, which the team announced today will run its final service on September 1.

“This is a bittersweet decision for us,” the pair said in a statement. “Whilst we wanted to extend our lease, we were unable to strike a deal with our new landlord. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved at Cirrus.”

The waterside seafood bistro opened in the old Noma site in 2016, and currently holds the title of Australian Wine List of the Year. The celebrated drops join a bright, truly beautiful menu – just look at the mussels on toast – that’s as sharp in flavour as it is skill (as is the Bentley Group way).

“Although this is disappointing, it has opened the door for new opportunities which will be announced soon,” the pair added.

When news hit Instagram, a few of Sydney’s favourite chefs chimed in – a true testament to its calibre. “One of the best seafood restaurants in the world,” wrote Morgy McGlone of Bar Copains. While Hamish Ingham, of just-closed Redbird, wrote “Big loss for Barangaroo”. Merivale exec chef Dan Hong opted for emojis: “😢❤️🙌”

Book in for a final meal, or head in for a special event – like Crablis Sunday (for a celebration of the crustacean and chablis), a Father’s Day feast or fish and chips for two.

Cirrus will close on Friday September 1, 2024.
