If you’ve ever felt guilty for cracking open a breakfast beer, we’ve got good news: Sydney brewery One Drop Brewing Co and Kellogg’s have collaborated to create a craft brew made with Corn Flakes. Now you can have your breakfast cereal and drink it too.

The limited-edition Corn Flakes Nitro Milkshake IPA uses the cereal in a beer that has a creamy, full-bodied and slightly sweet flavour profile, with notes of strawberry, passionfruit, coconut and mango, and just the right amount of hop.

Since it’s a nitro-based beer, One Drop co-founder Meg Barbic recommends giving it a shake before serving. “Shaking [it] three times then pouring hard vertically into a glass ensures the creamiest, milkiest result,” she says.

Corn Flakes was chosen for the base because of its lasting popularity. For some, the golden cereal is synonymous with Kellogg’s.

“The first product Kellogg’s ever sold was the corn flake,” Bruno Madonna, director of research and technology for the brand, tells Broadsheet. “[It] has been a catalyst for many amazing creations over the years.”

Kellogg’s approached One Drop with the proposal, and the team jumped at the chance to produce the new flavour.

“We were excited to combine our passion for brewing great-tasting beer with their iconic Corn Flakes to create something truly unique for the area and the beer community,” head brewer Nick Calder says.

Both companies are based in Botany, so the drink is as much a gift to their neighbours in the area as it is to lovers of cereal and craft beer.

“At One Drop we’re all about community, so teaming up with our Botany neighbours felt like a perfect fit,” co-founder Clay Grant says.

The drink is brewed and canned at One Drop’s Botany headquarters, and will be available while stocks last. It’s being served on nitro tap at the brewery’s taproom and at select retailers. Prices start at $9.
