Winter in Sydney this year may well be remembered for the high number of restaurant closures – which has included some of the city’s finest dining institutions – but it seems for almost every restaurant closing its door, there has been something fresh and exciting to fill the gap.

Such, is the case with Bondi’s The Hill Eatery, perched high on Campbell Parade, North Bondi. Brought to us by the creative trio behind the neighbouring cafe and retail venture, Porch and Parlour, The Hill Eatery is one of those lovely, new small bar-cum-restaurants serving excellent, home-style cooking. Or is that a restaurant-cum-bar serving killer cocktails?

Either way, the industrial fit-out at The Hill is sleek, but surprisingly homely, thanks especially to the lovely recycled hardwood that’s been used throughout. The sustainability theme carries through to the kitchen, where the cooking favours organic produce and home-style techniques. Think paellas, individual braised beef pots and organic beef burgers (the organic beef hails from Old Man Gully Farm in Scone, NSW).
