High-Fashion Scoops: Messina Creates a Limited Edition Gelato for Loewe

The intersection between fashion and food is popping up more and more in Sydney: we’ve got Song for the Mute doing uniforms for suburban Hungarian restaurants; home bakers making strawberry sundaes for Armani; and now, a gelato shop making an exclusive scoop for Loewe.
Gelato Messina has created a one-off flavour with the Madrid fashion house: a silky beetroot and dark chocolate number that’s a “little unexpected but super tasty”.
The union celebrates the opening of Sydney’s new flagship Loewe store. The Messina team looked to the fashion house’s new home scents range when creating the scoop, which will be available in Sydney for two days – and it’s on the house.
On the two days the gelato is available, there will be three Messina classics too: pandan and coconut sorbet, pistachio praline and chocolate fondant.
Here are all the details.
What: beetroot and dark chocolate gelato
How: “First I steam fresh beetroot until it’s soft,” Messina’s chef Roseline Roseline tells Broadsheet. “Then I blend it into a smooth puree. I mix that with a rich, creamy chocolate gelato base. The beetroot gives it an earthy sweetness that goes so well with the dark chocolate. It’s a little unexpected, but super tasty.”
Cost: free
Where: on Saturday May 3 at North Bondi from 11am till 4pm, and on Thursday May 8 in Martin Place from midday till 3pm.
