The Grounds will put on its third pop-up in conjunction with Sculptures By The Sea, which opens at Marks Park in October. This year’s Grounds By the Sea will be an adobe-brick-style cafe featuring a dry-climate-vegetation display, a textured floral rooftop and a “desert oasis” vibe.

"There's an element of contrast in bringing the desert to the beach... it was such a magical spot on top of the hill at Bondi. It provided the perfect canvas for us to do what we love most - dream up and create new experiences for our guests" says Ramzey Choker, Co-Founder of The Grounds.

Last year the creative team behind The Grounds brought us a Hobbit-themed pop-up with fences made out of recycled wood run by suspender-clad baristas. 2016’s pop-up is inspired by the landscape of Arizona and is a collaboration between Choker and its head stylist and creative developer, Therese Moussa.

Repurposed out of the Hobbit house, the desert oasis will be designed to blend into the surrounds of Tamarama; the structure’s hues will be reminiscent of the sunrise. Expect wrought-iron furniture, tiled tabletops and a sea of plants and succulents.

"The capacity is around 250 people, and we expect to welcome around 600,000 through the space over the two and a half weeks" says Choker.

The menu will be designed by The Grounds’ executive chef Paul McGrath and will feature breakfast bowls and seafood platters.

The pop-up will open from 7am–7pm from Thursday October 20 to Sunday November 6.
