The guys behind The Grifter Brewing Co. in Marrickville have started to can their brews – which is big news to anyone who’s tried them.

There’ll be a new release every month; November saw the first batch of Bright Eye released. Part-owner Matt King says the public’s response was overwhelming, having already sold out of the first cans. “We just put the word out there and it’s gone nuts.”

December’s batch hits bottle shops tomorrow. It’s their most popular beer – the watermelon pilsner, also known as Serpent’s Kiss. “People come all the way here for that beer, so we’re super excited to release it at Christmas time. Hopefully everyone will lap it up,” King says.

King launched Grifter Brewing Co. in 2012, along with Trent Evans and Glenn Wignall, and since then locals have been taking the beer home in their trademark 946-millilitre squealers. You’ll be able to purchase the cans at Earl's Juke Joint in Newtown as well as headquarters.

So what else can we expect to be canned next month?

“We will be doing our West Coast IPA, Big Sur, too. What’s after that, I’m not too sure. But I do know we want to continue to release good beers each month.”
