Porteno and Bodega’s Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz will host a hoedown. Mimi’s chef Jordan Toft and Totti’s Mike Eggert are throwing a disco party on the George Street tram tracks. And PS40, The Barber Shop, Rockpool Bar & Grill and Anna Polyviou are serving dishes at a fair. Plus, there is a big party in Parramatta.

Last year – when Sydney was fresh out of lockdown – heavyweight chefs and live music came together in some of the city’s busiest public spaces for spectacular long lunches for Destination NSW’s Open for Lunch. Now it’s back in a different form and in different venues, on December 2.

Four hubs in Sydney CBD and Parramatta will host five different events, starting at a long table on George Street where the first Open for Lunch took place. Luke Mangan is cooking a three-course meal from his restaurant Glass Brasserie for Feast for the Senses, with wines matched by sommelier and consultant Samantha Payne and live entertainment by the orchestra and vocalists of Ministry of Sound, plus session band Sexy Sunday Jam.

Porteno and Wyno x Bodega chef-restaurateurs Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz will host The George Street Hoedown. Take a seat on a hay bale, dig into the chefs’ take on Nashville-style barbeque and sip on cold beers and Tennessee whiskey as country musician Joshua Hedley plays.

On the tram tracks outside the Ivy precinct will be Merivale’s Disco Picnic, where punters will dine on a three-course meal from Mimi’s executive chef Jordan Toft and Totti’s executive chef Mike Eggert as they party to entertainment by funk-bringers Groove City and enjoy free-flowing drinks.

And a slew of great restaurants and bars will be joining the action at the YCK Fair, hosted by the YCK Laneways precinct. Vietnamese restaurant Cash Only Diner , Stitch Bar , Mexican eatery Esteban , and bars PS40 and The Barber Shop will be collaborating with Nola Smokehouse , Rockpool Bar & Grill and Anna Polyviou to serve three-course lunches, including an arrival cocktail and two more drinks.

That same day, Matt Moran (Aria , Chiswick) is cooking up a paddock-to-plate meal in Parramatta’s Commbank Stadium, alongside live stations serving food and drink from around western Sydney, including new Mediterranean-inspired all-day restaurant Misc. The lunch will be followed by Aussie icons Human Nature performing an intimate rundown of their greatest hits.

Open for Lunch is on Friday December 2. Tickets are $71.40, including booking fee, and on sale now.
