Last Thursday, on a sunny evening made even better by the fact we were approaching a public holiday, Broadsheet Access members trickled into new open-air bar Martinez for our third Editors’ Preview night in Sydney.
These exclusive events give members the chance to check out the city’s most hotly anticipated venues days ahead of the public.
Guests trickled in as the sun was setting, immediately clocking the mesmerising view of Sydney Harbour Bridge. They were greeted with spritzes designed to taste like mango Weis bars and a selection of wines. French-leaning canapés were roaming around the terrace too; highlights included the petite pissaladière with braised onion and anchovy; warm scallops covered in oursinade butter; and mini Wagyu beef burgers.
Between snacks, we heard from Broadsheet Sydney food and drink editor Grace MacKenzie and Jason Williams, director of House Made Hospitality (Lana, Promenade), on what makes Martinez unique among the group’s venues, the work that went into bringing it to life, and what else we can expect from the food and drinks menu.
