Arty in Haymarket
If you feel like dancing, Goodgod Small Club should be your next stop. It’s hosting its VIVID Rhythm of the Night ‘90s dance party. If you’re feeling peckish after burning all those calories, make your way to Old Town Hong Kong in Chinatown and sift through its extensive menu.
4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art has curated the special event 48HR Incident. It’s a 48-hour-long program of performance art and live action. Stop by the gallery and see the work of headlining Australian and international artists.
A Night on the Beaches
Far from the crowd of VIVID lies the recently re-vibed bar The Hold, with a curved, pirate-ship-like interior, Mexican snacks and Spanish tapas. There’s also Miss Marley’s, a tequila bar with a cigarette and cigar menu.
Hotel Steyne is part of the Taste of Manly Food, Wine & Sustainability Festival on this week. From 9pm its Moonshine Stage will host live acts Little Coyote and Goons of Doom. Or head to Papi Chulo at the wharf for some smokehouse meats and fresh seafood.
Alternatively navigate your night to Freshwater and head to Pilu for an Italian meal with a view. With a selection served in gothic-style goblets, a post-dinner cocktail at Stowaway Bar is also recommended.
Get Liquored in Eveleigh
If you’re in Eveleigh before 6pm, swing by Carriageworks to see a major retrospective of paintings, prints and drawings by the artist behind Radiohead’s album covers and associated artwork since 1994. Stanley Donwood: The Panic Office, is being shown in conjunction with Semi-Permanent and is now open to the public for free.
Next on the list is the Sydney debut of the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular at the Australian Technology park, Eveleigh. Experience the best of Australian and international craft breweries and try beer flavours such as oyster, split peas and orange peel.
If cocktails are more your style, Redfern has a great offering of small bars. Try one of The Bearded Tit's Cherry Bombs or the The Dock's signature Skittlebrau. Nearby The Angry Pirate will be donating $1 from every Negroni to charity.
Culture in the Quay
It’s the second weekend of Vivid, and if you haven’t been to see the lights, they’re worth a trip. From there you can explore the works along The Rocks and hear David Attenborough narrate the Life Story installation.
Saturday night VIVID gigs with tickets still up for grabs include Melbourne Ska Orchestra with Mojo Juju or an Evening with Morrissey.
