Four Pillars distillery has won a double-gold medal (which means a gold medal was awarded by every judge) at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco for its Rare Dry Gin. The Yarra Valley brand won the same award in 2014 for the same gin.

The brand is the only Australian gin to win the double gold this year, and the second Australian gin to win it twice (The West Winds Gin has also won twice). In 2015, out of 192 gins entered, only 10 were awarded double-gold medals. This year, 218 gins were entered and 19 won double gold.

Since entering the market in 2013, the gin has been extremely popular. It’s created in a German copper still using 10 botanicals, locally sourced where possible. Four Pillars has five other gins in its range. These can be bought online or found at numerous bars in Sydney.

Only three other Australian spirits scooped double-gold medals this year, including Melbourne's Starward Single Malt Wine Cask Whisky which is made by New World Whisky Distillery in an airport hangar in Essendon Fields. It was also awarded Best Craft Distiller Whisky.

Other Australian producers The Grove and Hoochery Distillery also won double-gold medals for their Caribbean Spiced Rum and Ord River 10 Year Old Spike's Reserve Rum respectively.
