What’s on around town
• Hit Rasa House in Rose Bay for $15 snack and cocktail pairings – like a Marg with okra chips or a Dirty Martini with a chilli-dressed oyster. Available from 4.30pm till 6.30pm on weekends, and 5pm to 6.30pm weekdays.
• Oxford Street’s new weekly farmers market kicks off on Saturday November 8. Hit Taylor Square from 8am till 2pm for fresh produce, flowers, coffee and more.
• Drop in to Maison Balzac’s Surry Hills or CBD boutiques on Saturday, between 11am and 1pm, to nab a scoop of Messina on the house.
• Find two-for-one Aperol Spritzes at Barangaroo venues – like Woodcut, A’mare, Zushi and Gina – throughout November.
• King Street favourite Firepop is hosting a one-night-only vegetarian dinner. Chef Raymond Hou will be taking diners through five courses, with a pairing by Wilimee Wines. Bookings essential.
• Corner 75’s Sunflower Room – an upstairs space, complete with private balcony and set menu – is now ready and waiting for all your private dining needs.
• Until Saturday November 8, find Boss Coffee cocktails at Suntory Bar at Prefecture 48. There are Coffee Coladas, Japanese Colas and Irish-coffee style serves, plus more.
• Find $69 set menus and $16 cocktails at Ripples Chowder Bay, Sails on Lavender Bay and Summer Salt in Cronulla and more until November 16.
What we covered this week
• Where Chefs Eat: 14 top chefs pick their favourite Sydney burger. Including Mimi Wong’s happy hour hero, Toby Wilson’s Portuguese go-to and a few beauties in the CBD.
• First look: Bistro Bondi, from the Lox in a Box team, opens with an ex-Ester chef leading the kitchen. It’s the first restaurant for the bagel pros, and there are anchovy-topped latkes, steak frites and umbrella-topped cocktails (just for fun).
• Coming soon: Sydney Theatre Company is soon to get the bar and dining room it deserves.
• The International’s new head chef Sol Yoon brings precision and flair honed at Tetsuya’s and Quay. Find out what else she’s bringing to the CBD dining room, plus her go-to dumpling stop, snacky laneway bar and more.
• First look: Saigon Things is the Strathfield spot for outstanding Vietnamese broken rice plates, bamboo platters and crab tapioca noodle soup.
• Farewell, Double Deuce. The CBD’s “porn chic” favourite will close this summer. But while its days on Bridge Street are numbered, it’s not the end.
You might’ve missed
• 11 To Try: cinnamon scrolls are on a tear – and these are Sydney’s best.
• First look: Luigi Panini is the new sandwich window to visit for Nonna’s meatballs, a top-selling porchetta and plenty of local cheese.
• First look: Tuki’s golden syrupy medialunas are only a DM away. The croissant-shaped pastries are a morning staple in Argentina – and the ones made by this at-home baker are a flashback for Sydney’s Argentinians.
