Coming Soon: Marrickville’s Getting a New Wine Bar in the Old Poor Toms Space

According to Zachary Godbolt, it was “crazy” Doom Juice Cellar Door happened the first time. The short-lived, much-loved wine bar from Godbolt and Sebastian Keys – Doom Juice’s founders ­– opened in 2022, in a garage and courtyard out the back of St Peters pub House of Music & Booze. Friends and family worked a bar that Godbolt’s dad made out of plywood. Now, their cellar door’s coming back – looking a bit schmicker, inside the original Poor Toms warehouse in Marrickville.

“That was our first foray into bringing Doom Juice into the real world,” Godbolt says. “You know, putting it in front of people and connecting on that hospitality level. “Why are we doing it again? We loved the first one so much. It seems like a shame for us to not try and reinvigorate that vision with maybe, you know, some slightly nicer furnishings.”

Expect fewer folding tables and Marketplace finds, but the same personality the pair are known for – from the slightly satanic bent and out-there marketing stunts to the rhinestone belts, branded condoms and tattoo parlours. 

Once it opens, the Chalder Street bar and bottle-o will be surrounded by Marrickville treasures (Ester Spirits, the new Primary Coffee and Mixtape, for example), some of which will be represented on the menu. 

“People can come to the home of the juice and buy a bottle themselves. Every single Doom Juice wine you could imagine. We’re on the Ale Trail, so there’s a few bits and bobs from friends around the track, on the non-wine side. Maybe a cheeky little collab from our friends up the road Ester.” 

They’re in the final stages of perfecting that collaborative drop, which will be a cellar door specialty. Food will be nibbly and locally sourced – from Marrickville neighbours like Black Forest Smokehouse – ready to support the wines in the indoor-outdoor space.

When it’s not the cellar door, it’s the Doom Juice HQ, where all the operations happen. “Big ups to the Poor Toms guys – they helped us get into the space. It was one of the first places that I went when I first moved to Marrickville, where I’m standing right now. Now we’re opening a bar in it, so it feels all warm and fuzzy inside.”

Doom Juice Cellar Door will open at 66/6 Chalder Avenue, Marrickville, in mid-April 2026.
