The unstoppable juggernaut that is Din Tai Fung has launched its latest opening in Miranda Westfield. This will be the seventh Din Tai Fung to open in Sydney since the international dumpling house set up shop here in 2008 (recent additions include Chatswood Chase and Greenwood Plaza). Din Tai Fung Miranda is part of the newly revamped Westfield Miranda and is the most ambitious of the dumpling restaurants to date, seating more than 220 people in the double-storey venue.
Diners can expect to see the same much-loved menu featuring the famous handmade soupy xiao long bao, as well as rainbow dumpling gems in seven flavours and bright colours. But it’s not all same-same for the dumpling giant. The newest addition sports a whole new look to reflect the breezier nature of its Shire location.
The Miranda has concrete finishes, aqua and blue tones, whitewashed walls, pale-wood details and colourful koi artwork. You will still see the tall stacks of bamboo baskets heading for their precise, three-minute steams – which is part of the show. To ensure consistency, dumpling chefs are all trained at the flagship World Square restaurant. There is a minimum of two years of training to obtain dumpling-master status.
But just in case you’re not a dumpling lover, the hefty menu offers more than 75 dishes, from fried chicken with chilli, to the mango tango slushy ice dessert. And it’s perfect timing with Lunar New Year just around the corner.
