When beloved Manly restaurant Chica Bonita opened an outpost in the CBD in April, it raised the city’s Mexican game. Now it’s taking on lunchtime with the announcement it’s added takeaway to its repertoire.

Just to make sure everyone knows it’s happening, next Monday, June 24, it’s giving away 100 of its takeaway California burritos for free. Doors open at 11.30am, and if you’re one of the first 100 inside you’ll be treated to a wrap filled with carne asada steak, fries, guacamole and cheese. To be eligible, you need to sign up with your email address here. If you miss out, you can still order lunch to take back to your desk Monday to Friday.

Expect elevated takeaway, created by Chica Bonita’s Mexican-born head chef Alejandro Huerta. There’ll be takeaway versions of the diner’s best-loved dishes, including guacamole with blue corn totopos (tortilla chips) and fries with steak, guacamole and cheese.

A menu of burritos and Mexican bowls has also been introduced. Along with the California version there are also three other burritos: sweet potato, roast chicken, and squid and chorizo. There’s also bowls of duck carnitas (braised meat), lamb barbacoa (slow-cooked) and crisp eggplant with a side of tortilla.

Chica Bonita’s lunch will be served Monday to Friday from 11.30am to 3pm, beginning June 24 with a giveaway of 100 burritos.
