This April some of Sydney’s most popular burger chefs will meet at Manning House at the University of Sydney, for Sydney’s biggest burger festival, Burgerpalooza. Run by Archie Saliba and Ben Kagan of Hashtag Burgers, the festival will feature Sydney’s most sought after burgers as decided by the Fatties Burger Appreciation Society (FBAS).

There’ll be six burger stalls featuring Bar Luca, Pub Life Kitchen, Barrio Cellar, Chef’s Kitchen, Bare Grill and Milk Bar by Cafe Ish. “They’re all in the top-10 [FBAS] list. These are some of the biggest burger places in Sydney, and they're designing unique burgers for this event,” Kagan says. Details of the specials will be released closer to the time.

To make sure you can fit them all in, the burgers will be smaller than usual. “They're not sliders, but they're not full-size burgers,” says Kagan. The idea is for people to try multiple burgers for one meal. “Because,” he says, “otherwise you could just go to the restaurant.”

The six burger stalls will be joined by a James Squire bar doing beer-burger matchings. Hashtag Burger DJs will play their signature blend of hip-hop, soul, funk and disco. Other drinks, and varieties of beer will be available.

The festival is ticketed, with one ticket giving you five hours in the festival. A stall where you can buy coupons for burgers and drinks will operate. “We’ll keep all the burgers under $10,” says Saliba. He and Kagan, who’ve worked together on Hashtag Burgers’ Funk-n-Burgers nights, and the Burgers by Josh pop-ups, plan to make this an annual event with an ever-increasing line-up of burgers and chefs.

Burgerpalooza is on April 16–17 from 11am–10pm at Manning House in the University of Sydney, Camperdown. Tickets are $6.99 + booking fee. Buy tickets here.
