A former juice bar has been revamped, with the aim of transforming its fine piece of real estate overlooking North Bondi into a community-centred cafe.

Buckler’s is the Wallace family’s first cafe, with manager Jackson Wallace coming from a media and advertising background and his father, Mark Wallace, making the switch from the food-manufacturing business. “I was sick of sitting behind a desk all day. It didn’t excite me, it wasn’t fulfilling,” Jackson says.

The rebranding of Buckler’s started in March, with head chef Dasche Goodwin joining the team. Goodwin cut his teeth on Sydney’s fine-dining scene with an apprenticeship at Rockpool Est. 1989 before seeking a more relaxed environment.

He brings his fine-dining skills with him, evident in specials that go the extra mile, such as lamb-shank pie with cinnamon butter and pickled Dutch carrots; and handmade egg pasta with lamb ragu.

The interior has been completely refreshed, with the single long bench replaced by several individual round tables and an open kitchen. An open-plan layout has added space to the small cafe, while light timber fittings reflect the coastal location.

Only the name remains the same, a reference to Ben Buckler point, which forms the northern tip of the Bondi horseshoe. Those seeking freshly squeezed juices can find a Botanica cold-pressed juice, while the cafe now brings the renowned Sutherland Shire–based roaster White Horse Coffee to Bondi.
