Despite the recent NSW Health Authority crackdown on burger-patty cooking regulations, there’s no sign Sydney’s burger boom is slowing down.

Less than two months after opening its Oxford Street shop, the Bar Luca team has announced it will add another outlet at Bondi Beach.

It will take over the top floor of the Beach Road Hotel, a space previously occupied by businesses such as Eat Art Truck’s TruckStop, on May 25.

The large alfresco area that spans the rooftop was recently renovated by design firm Luchetti Krelle, with polished concrete floors, timber panelling, cane furniture and leather banquettes, giving the new BL Burgers a breezy, beachy vibe. It also has more seating than at the Oxford Street shop.

“We had about 2000 through for our Anzac Day pop-up,” BL co-owner Sarah Robbins says.

“They approached us and wanted us up there to activate the area. It felt like a really good opportunity.”

It was the Beach Road Hotel’s art director, ex-Mambo designer Brent Smith (the artist behind BL’s Darlinghurst mural) who sealed the deal for them.

“Brent is a really good friend, so we had that in common, too. He’ll be doing something for us here, but we haven’t yet decided what it is.”

The Beach Road menu will feature the same weekly specials, but with a few exclusives, such as the PB&J and the Blame of Thrones, a Wagyu patty, cheddar, house-smoked duck bacon, sweet-potato poutine and smoked-maple aioli.

The Blame Canada dessert, that outrageous mash-up of vanilla-bean ice cream, “beefy” caramel swirl, maple marshmallow fluff and parmesan, will also find a home at Beach Road.

And, “Unlike at Oxford Street, there’s going to be plenty of booze,” Robbins says.

For now, the Bondi venue will only open from 5pm, Wednesday through to Sunday, but will likely extend its hours over summer.
