The Haikin family’s collection of Israeli eateries under the Shenkin name opened another cafe recently. This time, it’s on Crown Street in Surry Hills, which for those living outside the inner west looking for a dip plate to end all dip plates, is great news.
We saw the first artist’s renders of Matt Moran’s giant new restaurant slated to open at the Barangaroo site in early 2016, and we also revealed that the International Cat Film Furstival (organised by the good people at the RSPCA) will take over the Glebe foreshore in October. The enormous interest in this announcement proved once more that cats really do run the internet.
Redfern is now home to another new small bar, The Bearded Tit. Home to a fancy collection of knitted penises out the front, and an army of taxidermy (and beer) on the inside.
Harris Farm Markets launched a nifty new campaign to ensure perfectly good - but slightly blemished - produce doesn’t go to waste, an effort we really support. In other food news, we unearthed a fantastic new online video magazine, PALATE, which makes a plain sprout sandwich look surprisingly enticing.
