One of the best parts about winter is the arrival of truffles. To those who aren’t familiar with the deep, earthy notes of the rare fungus, it can transform basic dishes into textured masterpieces. We’ve hunted down the venues with seasonally perfumed dishes on the menu, from pasta to crème caramel.
No.1 Bent Street
No.1 Bent Street is hosting a dinner in celebration of truffles on Thursday June 15. Join Mike McEnearney and head chef Jeffrey De Rome as they serve up an indulgent five-course meal using produce from Jayson Mesman’s The Truffle Farm in Mount Majura. Mesman uses trained dogs to hunt the rare black truffle, which will be the highlight of braised truffled mushroom and radish, spit-roast ‘demi-deuil’ chicken and even crème caramel. Choose from a $200 menu or $295 (including wine). The wine list will be designed by Bryan Martin, who has handpicked and matched wines for each dish.

Madame Truffles is teaming up with Young Henrys Brewery on July 1. Try truffle cheese in toasties with pints of craft beer. These truffles come from the award-winning Terra Preta Truffles. You can try them in-store at the Madame Truffle’s pop-up (open just for winter) in Surry Hills or order online.
Three Williams Cafe
At the beginning of June, Three Williams cafe heralds the season with dishes featuring freshly shaved truffle from The Truffle & Wine Co. The truffle menu has been created by head chef Jacqui Ektoros. Her indulgent truffle cookies-and-cream dessert is a highlight with macadamia cookie, truffled mandarin-crème patissiere, gold-dust feuilletine, dark-chocolate crisp pearls and shaved truffle. The menu will be available throughout the truffle season. For bookings, call 02 9698 1111.
You can take a truffle tour through several restaurants at The Star. Visit Balla for truffle tagliatelle, or Black Bar & Grill for a range of truffle-based dishes such as crème brulee and truffle ice-cream. If you feel like whole, grilled John Dory with shaved truffle, head to Sokyo or Pizzaperta for a truffle and fontina cheese pizza.
On July 20, Bishop Sessa returns with its Black Diamond Dinner. For $195 per person, attendees can enjoy a five-course menu featuring local black Perigord truffles from Stonebarn Truffles, complemented by local and imported wines. Book here.
