Expect sunny Italian vibes at this beachside corner store with fried calamari cones, Roman-style pizza, spaghetti aglio e olio, tiramisu and Aperol spritz for a good time, not a long time.

In its 35-year history, Bathers’ Pavilion has mostly kept to its grand original building overlooking Edwards Beach. Now, the Mosman institution has expanded across the road with Eddy’s, an Italian-style neighbourhood enoteca and corner store, which is popping up for the warmer months.

Each morning the 40-seater will offer pastries and baked goods from Bathers’ Pavilion head pastry chef Shruti Punja (ex- Rockpool Bar & Grill). Options include danishes with cinnamon and pearl sugar, blueberry and vanilla, chocolate, or ham and cheese. Frittata tart, ricotta hotcakes and a variety of ciabatta crostini are some other options tempting early risers.

As the day progresses, enjoy Roman-style pizzas with toppings such as salami and honey, and shaved ham and green olive, plus fried calamari cones to go. Stick around and graze over beef carpaccio with fennel and bagna cauda (a garlic and anchovy dip); prosciutto and melon; and grilled asparagus. There’s also house-made pasta – including orecchiette with pork-and-fennel sausage; spaghetti aglio e olio; and pappardelle with asparagus, peas and stracciatella – as well as rump cap with salsa verde, and chicken schnitzel for heartier appetites. Bathers’ Pavilion co-owner and managing director Jess Shirvington’s advice is not to skip the tiramisu: “We’re all obsessed with it.”

To pair with the relaxed all-day menu, there’s an Italian-leaning wine list with by-the-glass options starting at just $10 for the house white and red, which were created in collaboration with Rotherwood Wines in the Southern Highlands. A range of Italian spritzes, including Aperol, Hugo and Italicus, and refreshing cocktails such as Bellinis, Bloody Mary Bambinos and Negronis are also available.

But don’t count on Eddy’s sticking around after January. “I never say never,” Shirvington says. “At the moment I’ve just told everyone, ‘Let’s have an amazing summer.’”
