When do these people rest? Fresh from opening a slice shop on the Sydney corner most recently buzzing as Cafe Freda’s, the AP team has welcomed another outpost: AP Point, in the old Small’s Deli space in Potts Point.

It is the team’s ninth store, joining Appizza, AP House and AP Supply in Surry Hills, AP Town in Newtown, AP Bread & Wine in Darlinghurst, AP Quay down by the harbour, and the ever-popular Carriageworks Farmers Market outpost.

The skinny little slice of a space on Victoria Street was adored for its big sangas by Emily Van Loon and Ben Shemesh, the couple behind Small’s Deli. The pair shut up shop in early September, after nearly six years of service (in which it became a favourite of Queen Nigella and Sydney alike). But the hole-in-the-wall is set to continue its carby traditions, with Dougal Muffet’s deep-brown bakes powered by house-milled grains and local flours.

Just like Small’s, AP Point geared for takeaway. Bring your keep cup for coffees to go, and load up on the team’s pastries, viennoiserie, sky-high pies and the plump, filled-to-order cream puffs we met at AP Supply. Super-stuffed muffulettas are available by the quarter or the half, and sesame-crusted bagels arrive with avo, greens and chilli. There are sangas aplenty and AP’s mini mortadella rolls.
