SIGN UP• First look: Teddy, the Ezra boys’ new project, takes over the old Raja space in Potts Point. It’s pumping out retro plates and disco tunes with a brief that prioritises value over haute cuisine aesthetics.
• First look: Roman’s Deli, the Georges Hall food truck in a petrol station carpark, is the spot for a knockout (and sell-out) Reuben with Wagyu pastrami.
• First look: Bistro Grenier arrives to a loft space in a Newtown wine bar. It’s from the Odd Culture team and brings a menu capturing the “terroir and weirdness” of the neighbourhood.
• First look: with trains (finally) rolling under our harbour, there’s a flash new food precinct joining Victoria Cross station. It’s the spot for P&V wines, Rosheen Kaul’s favourite bubbe tea and an iconic inner west banh mi.
• First service: Josh and Julie Niland scale up with Saint Peter at the Grand National. They’ve now got more space, an à la carte front bar for walk-ins and the option to stay the night. Lucky Sydney.
• First look: there’s a husband and wife behind Gramme Espresso, a new specialty coffee shop for Mascot. A sanga with rockmelon joins cups made from award-winning beans and a strawberry cold brew.
• First look: Cafe Tanja adds tagines and zaazaa to a bright space on Crown Street. Head to the family-run North African spot for slow-cooked stews, house-made bread and buttery couscous.
• First look: AP Supply is the only place to buy the bakery’s plump pistachio cream puffs. The weekend-only joint is also takeaway only, and it’s all in a bid to tackle queues and do “the baker’s duty”.
• First look: Ennui takes to Haymarket with a riff on the carrot XO from Love, Tilly Devine. The historic two-storey space has housed a presbyterian minister, a beehive maker and a Thai grocer, and now has a team of three mates running the show.
• Staple, one of Sydney’s sourdough superheroes, now has another beachside bakery – with all the golden rough-puff sausage rolls you could want.
• First look: Table Manners is a big win for Bronte, packing assassin’s spaghetti and grapefruit Negronis in a killer fit-out. Snack on Bega Stringer-like croquettes alongside exceptional wines, or lean in to a luxe dinner.
• First look: you’ll want to pay attention to Attenzione, Redfern’s brand new dining room. Four talented mates are behind it, and there are ludicrously photogenic pastas and an RSL-core speakeasy.
• Coffee by day, boiler room by night: FBR is a 15-seat space with specialty pours and secret sets.
• First look: the 10-square-metre espresso bar Soft Sip just squeezed onto Bourke Street with Gabriel coffee, knafeh and kaak (a sesame-topped Lebanese bread with a wildly stretchy cheese pull).
